you could upgrade it. would be cheaper than buying a whole new box.
(plus you learn something while doing it lol)

This, it would be cheaper to upgrade in little bits than buy a new box completely. However even that can be expensive sometimes ;/

if you don't know what exactly you need or want, yeah..

you sure could buy 4GB DDR2 1066 overclocker RAM for 130bucks, but that's wasted money if your board doesn't support anything faster than DDR2 667.. (just as an example)

in theory, i could help you upgrading it.
especially avoiding first-timers most common problem of oversized or undersized components (a high end graphics card isn't worth anything if the rest of the computer can't keep up)

I'd say you chose wisely.I'd suggest the 480 ,but it costs a shitload of money,and the rest of the pc,can't keep up with it,resulting mass pc failure.
Try the 280 gtx.It's not cheap,but you won't have problems with the graph card for 2,2 and a half years.And i'd suggest Assus rampage 2 extreme.It's 2010 12 in top.The extreme one is far better.Google those if you want to see them.
Cheers!

^ so much for totally oversized components that cost a fortune and won't help him much.

the 9400GT would be a good option, allthough it has been superseded by the GT210.
same for the 9500GT (-> GT220) and 9600GT (-> GT240) and a middlepiece between the 9600GT and 9800GT (-> GTS240)

i don't really know any computer webshops in romania, so i couldn't look up some prices Neutral
i'd go for a GT240 or 9500GT. solid mid-range solution that isn't too expensive (and in theory even capable of GTA IV with modest detail settings)

DDR2 RAM prices pretty much skyrocketed in the past year.
plus, i was talking about a 4GB high-performance Kit, i.e. 2x 2GB sticks of DDR2-1066 with some headroom for further overclocking..

like the G.Skill Trident and/or Ripjaw series.

got this Kit in my box.. was 69.90eur when i wanted to buy it, but didn't have enough money (last october).. then, when i finally had more cash left over, i wanted to buy it and the prices went up *everywhere* to around 100eur.. Shocked
now, the very same kit is at 140bucks (if you can find a shop which still has them in stock that is..)
http://www.alternate.de/html/product/Speicher/G.Skill/DIMM_4_GB_DDR2-1066_Kit/134748/?showTecData=true&cmd=showTecData#tabberBox

at first i thought about buying another kit to be maxed out at 8GB.. but with those prices..?! no way.
prices for DDR2-RAM skyrocketed within 1 year..

March 2009: 1GB DDR2-800 -> 9eur
Oct./Nov. 2009: 1GB DDR2-800 -> 22eur
June 2010: 1GB DDR2-800 -> 32eur

this doesn't look too terribly expensive, but keep in mind that this is just for one 1GB stick.
if you want a 4GB Kit (2 sticks of 2GB) or even more, be prepared to dig DEEP into your pocket compared to a year ago..

Indeed,what you said would suit his Pc quite well.But i was thinking of long lasting options.
9800 would be good as well.It would be kay for 2 years.I'm sure he won't have any problems with that one,the new games would run quiue well.That's my opinion though.It's his PC,he'll take the decision,but i think he'd be more than glad to hear any suggestions.

I'd go for a GTS 250 (9800GTX+), but it's double size. But it's a powerful card at a good price. Smile $155 ( I dunno about romania, sorry )

But I'm looking at a ATi Radeon HD 4650 at a nice really low price hehe. I think it's all of what your PC can hold and what you want in performance.

You're joking,right?A 9800GTX+ at 155 $?That's Heaven on earth.
How's ATi Radeon HD 4650?Really low price?What do you mean by that?100 euros?
